Getting Started with Suede IP

Welcome to the Suede IP Registry—the programmable IP layer for the AI era. This guide will walk you through registering your first asset, creating licenses, and understanding how derivatives work on our platform.

Register

Mint an IP Account for your work (image, audio, or data) on Base Sepolia.

License

Create commercial or non-commercial licenses for others to use your work.

Derivatives

Link new works to existing ones, automatically inheriting attribution.

How to Register IP

Registration creates an immutable on-chain record of your work. This process mints a specialized NFT (IP Account) that can own other assets, receive revenue, and manage licenses.

Connect Wallet

Ensure your wallet is connected to Base Sepolia testnet. You will need a small amount of ETH for gas fees.

Navigate to Registry

Go to the 'IP Registry' page from the sidebar menu.

Click 'Register IP'

Click the blue 'Register IP' button in the top right corner to open the registration dialog.

Enter Metadata

Title: Name of your work
Description: Brief summary
Type: Audio, Image, or Data
File URL: Link to the hosted file (IPFS preferred)

Confirm Transaction

Sign the transaction in your wallet. Once confirmed, your IP Account will be deployed and your work will appear in the dashboard.

Pro Tip

Use IPFS for your file URLs to ensure your content remains decentralized and permanent.

Managing Licenses

Licenses allow others to use your IP under specific terms. Suede supports programmable licenses that enforce terms automatically.

Available Templates

Non-Commercial

Free

Great for visibility. Allows remixing with attribution but no commercial use.

Commercial Use

0.05 ETH

Standard commercial rights. One-time fee, requires attribution.

Exclusive

1.0 ETH

Premium exclusive rights for a limited time period.

Creating a License

Go to Licenses

Navigate to the 'Licenses' page.

Select a Work

Choose the registered IP asset you want to license.

Choose Template

Select one of the predefined templates or customize terms.

Set Fees

If applicable, set the license fee and AI training fee.

Grant License

The license is minted as a token given to the licensee.

Creating Derivatives

A derivative is a work based on another existing work (the "parent"). Registering a derivative links the two assets on-chain.

The Process

Hold a License

You must hold a valid license for the parent work to register a derivative.

Register Derivative

In the Registry dashboard, select your new work and choose 'Link as Derivative'.

Select Parent

Enter the Asset Hash or Token ID of the parent work.

Verify Link

The system checks your license and creates the link. Revenue flows can now be automated.

Why register derivatives?

Provenance — Clear, immutable history of where your work came from.

Legitimacy — proves you have the right to use the original work.

Revenue Share — Automated royalty splitting (coming soon) simplifies payments.
